Well, we made it to the beautiful Dominican Republic! Before I spill all the details about our location and ministry contact let me first tell you about how this journey began. On September 5th I said good bye to my mom and boarded a plane to Chicago to be reunited with my squad and teammates.   When I finally arrived to Launch and for the three days we were there I experienced so many emotions.  I was sad because I was leaving my friends and family, I was excited  because I was reunited with everyone and a little anxious to finally be in our first country. I feel that Launch was a great in that it prepared us for what we have in store this next year.
On the last  day we were told that our squad was splitting into two groups and traveling at different parts of the day to the DR.  I was in the first group so our travel day started at 3 am.  Yes… 3am.  So after our late night we had to re pack our packs, enjoy the last minute perks of hotel living (air conditioning & showers with water pressure) and try to sleep.
We were packed and ready at 2:45 waiting for our bus to take us to the airport.  We had some time to  wait  but then were off to Miami. From Miami we then headed to Santo Domingo.  We were able to become really familiar with the airport because we had to wait for our other group for eight hours.  When they finally came we then boarded 3 busses with all of our gear for a three hour bus ride to San Juan.   When we finally arrived to San Juan it was 3 am so in all when had traveled a total of 24 hours.
Our host for the night was the gracious Miguel.  He is an American that came to live in the Dominican Republic  and helps fellow missionaries.  All 60ish of us found a place to sleep and went to bed.
So overall our first travel day was long but not as bad as I expected.   Stay tuned to hear more about of contact. Pictures are coming too!
