We just finished month one and I can’t believe it flew by that quickly… It’s a great reminder to really stick my heels in and make the most of each moment. We spent the last month in Lajas/ the mountains of the DR and we stayed with Hope for the DR. Our host’s unfortunately were stuck in the states for most of our stay, but we got hosted
by their family friend, Kristan. She was such a blessing to all of us and really showed me what hospitality should look like. This month was much slower than I think most of us anticipated but it really stretched me to believe that you don’t need to be busy to be making an impact. My team, the Kingdom Shakers, worked with womens ministry and evangelism during our stay and even though our time felt short we made life long connections. We held a womens bible study with the women of Lajas and I must tell you they taught us so much through there vulnerability and strength to press on through the hard things in life. One of my highlights of the month was getting to hold a Beauty For Ashes Retreat and we focused on asking the Lord what our true worth is. We all laughed and enjoyed one another and admired how God has made us beautiful in his perfect image. Later that week we went to visit one of the women and her drawing from the retreat was up on her wall and I was so encouarged to see that it really meant alot to her. We also got to walk the streets in Lajas and be welcomed into homes to share God’s love and joy. It was beautiful to be apart of God unifying us as a team and really getting to see how the Holy Spirit works so differently in each one of us. We are one body and all working as different parts and that really showed when we were welcomed into Andres’ house. He is my favorite! His stories are so colorful and better than any childrens story book I’ve ever heard. That day we got to be apart of Andres welcoming the Lord back into his heart and we encouraged one another to see Gods goodness. I’m so excited to know that this is just the beginning and that there’s so much more to come. I have had a very hard time with wifi this month and I’m still trying to learn how to balance being present, but also still keeping all of you updated with what God is doing. Please be patient with me and know that if I am not constantly updating pictures, blogs, etc. it is because I am choosing to focus on what is set in front of me. I’ve learned so much this far and that nothing is as you expect it to be… We leave for Haiti tommorow and from what I have heard we will not be getting any wifi, so I will keep you all posted as soon as I can. We will be staying at Mission of Hope, it’s about 30 minutes outside of Port-au-Prince. Here are some pictures of what it has looked like for us to live in Lajas in the last month. Thank you for all your prayers and support!
