Greetings from MOLDOVA!

After
another 27 hour train ride, we have reached our final country on t
his crazy journey! We have been in the small town of Cornesti for about a week now,
working alongside a pastor here. It has made for
quite the experience so far.
In reality, it seems as if we have gone back in time to, possibly, the 1800’s-
seriousl
y. We are back to squatty potties, no running water (which also
means no showers!) and wells…not to mention, a type of transportation that we often see
here is a horse and buggy!

We
have really enjoyed our ministry here so far and it has proven to be a good
pace for us since we are all pretty tired these days! The church that we are
partnered with for the month runs a shelter where 5 girls and 5 boys stay who
have been left without parents to care for them. They also have a sewing school
and children’s program each afternoon. The girls have been doing a variety of
different things depending on the day.

One
day Caley and I harvested carrots all morning.

We
have also been shredding the carrots and sorting through dill for the kitchen
to use in preparing meals.

 Another
m
inistry that I have gotten to partake the most in is home visits. About 5 of
us
head out in the morning and walk to different homes in the community who
need food. We go with 2 girls who volunteer at
the shelter- Veronica and Anna.
Veronica translates for us. Here is a picture of Veronica with her grandmother
who w
e took some food to.

 The
older women (babushka’s) in this community who we have gone to visit are
precious. Sever
al of them have cried while we have been there and insist on
giving us things in return. We’ve gotten apples, hazelnuts, pears, grapes, etc. We are
always greeted with a smile and left with a kiss from them on each cheek.

 In
the afternoons we help with the children’s program. There are about 12 children
who come each afternoon. We sing songs, play games, and tell them a Bible
story.

The
boys have been doing some construction and manual labor. Their ministry isn’t
quite as restful as ours. The first couple days they helped in the building of
a shelter for beavers. This church breeds be
avers to make money- evidently
beaver meat is a delicacy here and very expensive. The last few days they
helped the boys at the shelter dig a well in. We appreciate their hard work! 🙂

We
will be here for another week and then head to meet up with the whole squad on
the 14th. Our final debrief will take place in Brasov, Romania! Thank you so
much for all of your encouraging words and prayers…please be praying that we
continue to finish strong!

Also,
my teammates David and Catherine Reyes and Caley Peterson are still in need of
some funds to finish this amazing journey. If you click on their names it will
take you to their blog where you can donate if you feel led to do so. We would
appreciate it so much!!
