Going into Training Camp, I wasn’t sure of much. But I was sure of 1 thing and 1 thing only: I DID NOT want to be on an all girls team.
Well, of course, when teams were announced and I found myself on an all girls team, I paused briefly. Just sat there and marinated on the information I’d been given. And then I thanked God. Yes, I thanked Him for giving me exactly what I need, NOT exactly what I want. See, I know that my team was hand-picked by the Almighty. We each have specific, wonderful, unique gifts that will not only bless us as a team, but also bless those with whom we come in contact. So I thanked Him. Even though I was a bit crestfallen and even though I wasn’t sure what to expect, I thanked Him. Our team got to spend some quality time together and do activities together and through all of it, I just couldn’t stop thinking about how great these women are. They all knew my initial trepidation about being on an all girl team(some even felt similarly!) but I told them the truth, I said “If ever there was an all girl team for me to be on, this is it!! It’s perfect!” And I mean that from the bottom of my heart! We’re already growing deeper in our friendships and before our 11 in 11 is over, there’s no doubt these sisters in Christ will feel like biological sisters.
- Here are my teammates:
Jessica H. — Sweet, funny, strong, natural born leader!
Leslie “Lulu” M. — Hilarious, honest, open-minded, kind!
Kiersten G. — bold + bright, insightful, intelligent, funny!
Brittni L. — Patient, brave, pragmatic, ridiculously thoughtful!
Megan B. — big hearted, loving, creative, caring!
- Here’s the story behind our team name:
Psalm 42:7-8 states, “Deep calls to deep in the roar of your waterfalls; all your waves and breakers have swept over me. By day the LORD directs his love, at night his song is with me–a prayer to the God of my life.” We love how there’s this imagery of being submerged in the depths of the Lord’s waterfalls; it may not always look or feel great, but we can be totally swept over and submerged in His holy presence, His love, His works, His Word and His grace. In our 11 months around the world, we want Jesus’ waves of love and grace and mercy to sweep over us and keep us completely submerged in Him and in the work He’s given us to do. And at night, when we’re weary or sick or doubting our journey, we want to remember that his song is with us; our God, Immanuel, is indeed with us.
