I honestly wasn’t going to post anything until during or after camp BUT I feel compelled to do a pre-TC version of Worship Wednesday today because I want to share the soundtrack to my life right now.

When I was in graduate school at the University of Louisville (GO CARDS! L YES!), I had the blessing of attending Sojourn Church. This was the first church I attended after re-committing my life to Christ after he wrecked me late one night in my apartment, which you can read about here. I learned so much about The Bible, God, faith, fellowship and worship at Sojourn and I will always carry so much of that church with me.  But the number 1 thing about Sojourn that stood out to me was the worship; it was unlike any other church I’d EVER been to! The worship was organic, genuine, honest, corporate…. it never felt like a concert; it was never about ‘so-and-so’ having a solo or the congregation sitting by passively while the choir sang. EVERYONE was engaged, EVERYONE was singing, dancing, kneeling, praying, and glorifying God whether they were in the worship band or in the pews. And I loved it.

I’ve never been to a church, before or after Sojourn, that has had such a profound culture of worship. I was sad for nearly a year after I graduated and left Louisville because I missed Sojourn’s worship. Luckily, the church kept an online hymnal and I’ve been able to listen to some of my favorite hymns (many of which are written by the worship band, how awesome is that?!) over the past 4 years.

I recently felt drawn back to listen to some of my favorite Sojourn hymns and I stumbled upon a worship album they did in 2007 that I’d somehow NEVER listened to. And OHMYGOSH I don’t know how I’d never listened to it! It’s ridiculously good!

Before the Throne is an amazing album that’s currently the soundtrack to my pre-TC life. Almost every single track speaks to how I’m feeling about the race, my squad, myself, training camp, life, EVERYTHING! But one song in particular has been playing NON-STOP and that’s track 6, We Are Listening. This is my theme song for TC. I believe that if we all do what the lyrics say, and wake up each morning and go to bed each evening with “eyes to see and faith to hear” God’s Word, we’ll be unstoppable in our pursuit to draw near to Him and to shine the light of Christ on others. So, without further, a-do, I present to you a song from the soundtrack of my life.

Before The Throne by Sojourn

We Are Listening

Father I

Long to be wise

To see with new eyes

The Truth that was written by your hand

Father speak

Your life into me

Because I still believe

That You will help me understand

And we are listening to your Word (2x)

Morning and evening we come

To delight in the words of our God

Give us eyes to see

Give us faith to hear

That the Word is come

That the Word is here

Father I long to see Christ:

The Truth and New Life

The Word that made the universe

Father speak

Now I believe

I have been set free

By the Word that lived and died for me

And we are listening to your Word (2x)

Morning and evening we come

To delight in the words of our God

Give us eyes to see

Give us faith to hear

That the Word is come

That the Word is here
