Christmas day has a special way of putting everything into perspective. The greatest gift we have ever received is Jesus.

I think it was my boss in Colorado that told me about God’s table. It helped put my entire faith into perspective.

At training camp, we all sat at God's table together this night.

God invites us to sit with him at a table every day. This table has tons of food and drink for us to enjoy while we sit in the presence of God. It’s a table of goodness.

The problem is that we cannot bring our sin, anxiety, fear, or anything evil to the table. It doesn’t belong. We have to let go of the things that entangle us. When we let go of them and focus on God, we can enjoy the good things He has for us.

There is another problem though. That anxiety you let go of? It’s standing right behind your seat at the table. And your past sins and secrets? Those are there too.

The things of the world and of the devil don’t vanish when we sit. They are still  around us. They will kick and scream for our attention, willing us to get up from the table. These fears and lies tell us that we can’t sit down until we fix all of our problems.

Sounds about right. Even to me right now, this makes sense. I feel like I need to figure out all my stuff before I can sit down with God.

But here is the greatest news that the world has ever heard. Romans 5:8 says, “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” God doesn’t need us to kill our demons or sins before we sit down with Him. If we have accepted Christ as our personal Lord and Savior, He has already done that.

Why doesn’t God just take away all of the bad stuff of the world? For sake of this analogy: it reminds me to sit down. Nothing is more crippling than fear of the future. But God teaches us and reveals to us when we are sitting with Him.

How beautiful is this picture? You get to sit down at a table with God every morning. You can hear your insecurities calling for your attention. But instead of listening to them, you can listen to the Father. He speaks truth and peace over us. He rejoices over us with loud singing (Zephaniah 3:17).

I pray that today you can practice sitting at the table with God. He has hidden treasures for you in jars of clay (2 Corinthians 4:7).

Is anyone else crying? Just me? 🙂
