My last blog was almost a month ago. Yikes! Where did we leave off? I think Tokyo!
Goodbye, Japan and hellloooo Taiwan!!!
(Amy: Each country I get to, I think, “Helllooo, New York!!” From The Hannah Montana movie. “Miley! Miley!! See? She’s not home!”) π
We landed in Taipei, the capital of Taiwan. It’s been around 70 degrees the whole time we’ve been here, so you know I’m happy. π
We were staying in the Shinlin District. This is basically a fair during the Chinese New Year. This holiday is celebrated for a couple weeks, so we’ve gotten to experience the bulk of it.
When we were in Taipei, we were debriefing with our coaches and mentor. This is a chance for us to be poured into and encouraged. We also got to do some “activation”. Stephanie, our mentor, taught us about the leading of the Holy Spirit so we got to practice hearing from Him and acting on it.
We also had a night of speed dating in our hostel. π
Here is Meg! She’s my team leader. Team leaders typically stay for a couple months to help us get comfortable with life on the field. She actually just answered the Lord’s calling to do the entire 11 months with us! Check out her blog and support if you can! https://meghanmurray.theworldrace.org She’s already made an unbelievable impact on my race. Love you, Meg!
Since we spent 2 weeks in Taipei, we got to know a lot of the local vendors. My favorite foods from the Shinlin District were Chinese pizza, pork buns, dumplings, and fried Oreos. Pretty healthy, if you ask me.
Dangerous, but I tried it. Sorry pops! π
As much fun as it is for our entire squad to be together, it was time for our teams to separate. Packing is a nightmare but we somehow manage to fit everything.
My team, Invictus, took a train to Toucheng, Taiwan. We are partnering with YWAM, an awesome ministry. Their team has been able to connect us with churches, schools and other ministry opportunities. We love being able to work with local missionaries, but we also love to head out to meet people on our own. π Jesus uses both!
Believe it or not, my team actually went vegetarian and no dairy for a week. It wasn’t as bad as I thought. For those of you that know me, this is gonna blow your mind:
I can enjoy black coffee now. I eat peanuts and oatmeal. I also now like bananas and strawberries. I’m a changed woman. (Can’t eat tofu without making a weird face, but I still eat it!)
Okay, I’m gonna try to write a serious blog now! But we are about to head to the beach to camp out and surf in the morning so….
