I love to read. I always have, however, my literary tastes have always firmly stayed in the realms of fantasy such as Eragon, Fablehaven, Peter and the Starcatchers, and I will admit I enjoy the occasional Debbie Macomber romance novel (I mean what woman doesn’t? She basically writes Hallmark Channel books.) I have always really struggled with reading ‘spiritual books’ or christian books because I honestly thought they were really stupid. I mean if I want to know how to get closer to God shouldn’t I read his book (a.k.a. The Bible) instead of a book written by someone who is just as human as I am? That’s a little harsh but that has always been my internal debate when I try to read or am recommended ‘Christian books’. All that being said.. I read a ‘Christian book’. It is Called Wild at Heart by John Eldredge and it is probably the best book I have ever read. This book is written for men (go figure) but it has some deep insight to how the Lord has created men and women to be. What their hearts long for and why. Men were created to be wild, to go on adventures, to be heroes that save the day, and women were created to be loved, to be captivating, and to take part in adventure. There is a companion book to Wild at Heart written for women called Captivating and I am in the process of reading in so if it turns out good I may write another blog on it. I do not know how to sum up Wild at Heart without giving it all away. I realize that this is a short blog but all I have to say is go out and get this book, if you are a woman it will give you new insight into your brother’s, your father’s, husband’s, boyfriend’s, and all men’s hearts. If you are a man this book will open your eyes to how to be a man; that doesn’t mean you go hunt everyday or you just become a nice guy but it talks about true masculinity and how to be a man in today’s world where men are never allowed to be themselves and boys are criticized for being boys.
Well, if you stuck around for my shameless recommendation/infomercial of a blog I really hope you’ll buy this book or check it out from your library I know people who this book has helped and I know it has helped me and understanding my heart and the hearts of the men around me. Thank you so much for reading my blog and I promise this ad was not sponsored by Wild at Heart.
May the Lord bless and keep you all,
Molly McCrary
