God put the cherry on top of a great month in Malaysia. Our last two days, we were given the opportunity to volunteer at a Youth Church Camp. *Firez Camp*
When we first arrived at the camp on that Thursday, at 6:30am, we didn’t really know what was going to happen. We just knew we were there to answer questions if the campers had any, and pretty much do whatever we were told. Other than that, I honestly had no clue what was going on or where I was supposed to be, or even what was going to happen in those two days. Turns out, the Lord was about to bless me with two of the best days I have had so far on the race.
We checked in and then just stood around mindlessly for the first couple of minutes. We soon went to play a game, that required us to build a paper airplane and see whose would go the farthest, needless to say, I failed miserably. Eventually it was time to start camp, so we met our groups and went inside. At first I was feeling very uneasy. No one was really talking to each other in my group and we were all spread out and about. All I could do was pray that God would open their hearts and allow them to open up to each other. As you can guess, my prayers were answered.
Not too long after we got in the meeting space, we played games. Everyone knows I thrive when it comes to games, and just camp in general. So soon the youth/young adults began to relax more. After some ice breakers and introductions we had lunch and were told to change for more games. I was in charge of taking my group to all the games because our leader was helping facilitate the games.
Playing games with campers is a bond in itself. We had time to talk to each other as we walked from one game center to the other, or use team work as we figured out how to play something. We learned a lot by being intentional with our time.
That night we had worship and the speaker talked about purpose. He discussed our identity and finding our purpose in life. It was beautiful. At the end, he asked whoever wanted to know the Lord to raise their hands and to come forward. There were hundreds of people that raised their hands and came up. We could undoubtably feel the presence of the Holy Spirt. God was moving mountains in that place. He was creating a fire in all the hearts of those there. There were Hindus, Muslims, Buddhist, Christians, and every other culture, and religion there, but there wasn’t a person in that building that God wasn’t speaking to and softening their hearts.
We are changing our generations and setting a fire in all the nations.
Also it was the perfect ending for me because God knows I THRIVE when it comes to camp and games! It was such an amazing month, and Georgetown, Malaysia will always have a special place in my heart!
