Saying goodbye was very hard!
This month had its up’s and down’s, and there were many times I just had to walk away. No matter how hard it was, I always was comforted by a family member of our contact. Joanna who too many of us was like a mother figure. She had a heart of Gold and was always asking us are we ok, in the best English she could. Also to top it off her had three kids less than 6 years, and was a leader of many groups of the church. She was always there for you, and did her best to make us feel like home. Marcella is her sister in-law, who is Fernando’s wife who is main contact. She was also like a mother to us, and would help us with anything that we needed. The main family was wonderful, I could have never asked for more. They were so sweet, kind, and loving, also not to forget made us laugh so much.
We would eat at a different person’s house each night, which was from the church. They would make their best food, and have their best dishes for us. One person house we ate at had Christmas stuff at. He told us it was like Christmas when we arrived. How much we have done for the church, and the community. He was so grateful that we came.
The last day in South Quito at Dios es Amor, was very hard. There was a lot a crying and hugging. At church they made a slide show for us, with pictures of the month of us working. We all were about to cry. We were giving so many gifts from so many families. From cards, to teddy bears, to earrings, and much more; we were all giving love by many.
Our contacts drove us to our Squad meeting place. Let me tell you, driving laws on how many people in a truck, do not apply in Ecuador. We had 9 people in a tiny truck, plus three of our big packs, and backpacks. They all wanted to drop us off. It was the hardest thing, other than saying bye to my parents in July. After saying bye, I said to one of my team mates, “If this happens every time we leave a contact, I will need some major prayers to God for help”. Thou it was sad; it makes me happy that I left such a footprint in South Quito, at Diso ES Amor!
