I keep finding myself saying, “Training Camp (TC) was great. I feel like a real missionary. It was legit!”Really? Legit is the best word I can come up with? Legit comes from the word legitimate. Legitimate means “conforming to the law or to rules” which had nothing to do with Training Camp. My dear friend MC Hammer made the word quite popular with his song “2 Legit 2 Quit.” MC Hammer also said, “You have to pray just to make it today” which had everything to do with Training Camp.
If I was a super hero, I would be Slightly Above Average Girl! I run slightly above average marathon times, slightly above average half marathon times, am the average American height, can play just about every sport slightly above average and realized at TC that when it comes to prayer, I am slightly above average.
The first few days of TC we had lessons from Dr. Ronald Walborn, the dean of Alliance Theological Seminary. He really challenged my thoughts on prayer; how I pray for people, why I pray for people, and the true power of prayer. I realized I am not that great of a prayer. I want to be better than average. I want God to heal people through my prayers and truly believe that miracles can happen in front of my eyes. I want to stop giving God a “to do” list and really pray. I want to hear God’s voice so I can really pray for people and bless them.
My mom is a woman of prayer. I am so thankful for her example and always feel like if she is praying for me, I have nothing to fear. Now I need to step it up when praying for other people. Three things that I highlighted in my notes when praying with someone: listen more than talk, risk more than comfort zone is willing, and value/love the person. To become better at anything, you have to practice. I am so thankful I have 11 months to work on all aspects of my faith, my relationship with God and being a better woman of prayer.
TC run down for all of my “facts” people:
– We had exercise every day for 30 minutes.
– We had to take down our tent every night and pack up.
– We had African, Asian, South American, Easter Europe and American meals.
– We did many team building/formation activities.
– We had daily worship time.
We did a lot! We learned a lot! At the end of the week I felt so well rested. This year is just what I need!
