This blog would not be complete without stories. The other night at dinner we were talking with Evelin (19 yrs old), Evelin’s friend, Diego (29) about movies, music, sports, etc. Diego said that he loved John Travolta. I immediately got up and went to my room and pulled 13 lovely John Travolta postcards from my backpack.
Why do I have John Travolta postcards in my backpack, you may be asking? A few years ago I received a John Travolta postcard book as a gag gift. While moving out of my house for the World Race, I realized that I did not need a John Travolta book and tried to sell it on ebay. Surely there was a John Travolta fan out there that would pay big bucks for this book and help fund my World Race. No one bought it, so I put it in a pile. The day before I left for the World Race, I read through the packing list one last time and it said to bring stationary to write home. All my stationary was packed up, but the John Travolta post cards were not, so I threw them in and thought it would be fun to send a postcard each month that said, John Travolta says hello from Bolivia, or Thailand or South Africa!
So I brought the cards to the table and the family passed them around while we all laughed at John’s funny poses. Then Diego and Evelin picked out their favorite card and I signed it with a permanent marker like it was from John. Thanks John Travolta for the fun and for no one buying the book on ebay! A night in El Alto, Bolivia laughing over John Travolta postcards with my Bolivian family…priceless!
