1. Riding on a bus from Belgrade to Cacak was terrifying! Alone, after 30+ hours of traveling, no sleep, and no English. But I knew without a doubt that God’s hands were over me, and He would never leave me!
  2. Julie and Karl were the best hosts in our first month!
  3. Julie was awesome, but more so because we watched Anne of Green Gables on a rainy day!
  4. Karl is the first and last person I want driving the vehicle up and down a mountain.
  5. Jellybean has many meanings
  6. Sally, the best bike ever, and I had a love-hate relationship going to and from town. She made me feel very European, but she made me work extra hard just to keep up with everyone else. (yes, we all talked about my bike, Sally, as a real person with feelings)
  7. The weather is CRAZY! When I arrived in Serbia, it was very hot. Sweat running down body worthy hot. Then bam, rain. Then bam, cold rain. Then bam, perfect fall weather.
  8. We never did achieve the one goal, killing the mole who took over the playground. But we killed 3 mice instead. (short movie coming shortly)
  9. Corn flour does not work the same as regular flour. The neighbor’s cow should be enjoying that creation right about now)
  10. Serbian traditional dishes are delicious. Shout out to ZiZa for introducing us to every amazing food choices in Serbia. Also thanks ZiZa to for the great advice of not to worry about gaining weight. To eat everything here in Serbia, so that when we leave, we will always remember the delicious food in Serbia! Also, food made by ZiZa was always better because the secret ingredient was LOVE!
  11. If you couldn’t already tell, we fell in love with ZiZa! She is awesome, just read Jack’s blog!
  12. Pouring concrete is a full body workout, but also a full team activity
  13. Heather, squad leader, is very terrifying at throwing bricks to the 2nd floor. I found that if you grunt, your aim is significantly better!
  14. I re-found (not sure that’s a word…) my love for cooking. I love being able to serve my team in that way! **if you have easy, basic recipes you would like to share, please do!!
  15. Aubrey really likes my hands. Which apparently so does Heather. I just find that hilarious, and slightly weird. I have cool hands!
  16. If you are wondering, Serbia isn’t too different than American. Just several years behind in everything. Cars are different, yet similar. Foliage is the same-ish.
  17. Haley’s laugh carries at the campground. And I can’t complain.
  18. My team loves to laugh, but in Serbia, you were supposed to be quiet out in public. Sometimes hard to contain.
  19. Most of our meals either went one of two ways: “I hope the food is good” (ingredients are different than America) and “I have no clue what we just ordered”.
  20. We quickly learned the Serbian way to say ‘one more’, but more for someone else too. You couldn’t say no most of the time! 2 palacinke (crepes) turned into 6.
  21. Music is my love language. Music lifts my soul
  22. God placed several people in line of our team, of which we learned great things from.
  23. Traditional Serbian dance is LEGIT. I was able to watch 4 times, and learn twice. I also got to try on a little bit of the traditional outfits. (I looked awesome!)
  24. My expectations are God’s humor. And I’m ok with that!
  25. Serbs are people.  Different circumstances, same problems.  But still people
  26. Serbia has one of the highest abortion rates.  Basically how 2 people decide if they want to get married is when they want to keep the baby.  Abortion is birth control.  Breaks my heart, absolutely shatters it.
  27. I stick out in crowds, along with my teammates.  We are American, and apparently we have a big, blinking sign above our heads too.  People stare, take pictures, say hi, or try and talk to you
  28. I fell more in love with my team. I can’t wait to continue to living life together, and be weird together!
  29. John Cena…..only for Heather
