Learners of the Culture

Two primary schools…

As a team, we have prayed that God will use us as empty vessels. We planned a children’s program for the primary schools. We talked about how God is so big – Prachou YenYei. From God creating the world to how He knows how many hairs are on your head, this was our message. I believe God planted seeds in the young students’ hearts, and I continue to pray for God to reveal Himself more intimately with each child and lead them to making a choice to follow Him daily.

Here is a picture walk to guide you through our day at the primary schools…

We arrive with students sitting in rows – quiet and very attentive.

We are welcomed at one school by a dance put on by the older children in the school. Afterwards, the girls tie two ropes, soaked in a yellow mixture to die the string, to our wrist… According to the Buddhist, the two strings keep your soul and spirit inside of you. I thank Jesus that He is the Spirit living inside of me…

We present our program beginning with the little person skit to describe how American children get ready for school. This created a great laugh for the children.

We sing songs and then teach them to say “Pachou YenYan”, which means “God is Big” in Thai.

A skit created about God’s creation is performed.

To get a little physical activity and interaction, we lead them in a game of “Fruit Basket Turn-Over” and “Red Light, Green Light.”

After prayer, we walk with the students to the classroom to teach English.

We are invited to sit down with the teachers and principals to share a meal. I am actually enjoying eating whole fish (head to tail), however, it was a little difficult to eat the chicken we watched be butchered as we arrived, especially when I saw the head of the chicken in my bowl – but I ate it anyways
!

It  has been a wonderful experience… After the second school program/teaching, we were able to invest in playing with the children and building relationships!!!  My prayer is that the students will take a little bit of what we are teaching and ponder the lesson and let God lead them in a Christ faith journey!!!
