Welcome to the first of many blog post! I just finished my bio section and now I’m staring at the screen trying to start the written version of this real life adventure. Like all great stories, I guess I’ll start at the beginning.
The world race is a 11 month long mission trip around the world. It will take me to 11 countries and 3 continents. I will be living out of a backpack and in community with a bunch of other christian people. We will be serving God and his people and I’m not exactly sure how that works yet. I will be able to do this with God’s help and through fundraising… Side note, you look great today. A lot of fundraising…
Here’s the answer to some of your questions:
-I decided to do this because I need Jesus, a change, to travel, to learn what God’s plan is in my life, and because I’m 23 and can.
-Yes, I am scared. and happy. and overwhelmed. and excited.
-I will be going to the following countries but not necessarily in this order: Peru, Ecuador, Colombia, Bulgaria, Albania, Montenegro, Nepal, India, Malaysia, Thailand, and Cambodia.
-I need to raise about $16,761 for the trip itself. This includes my needs while on the race, insurance, and debriefing after the race. I will also need to raise money for plane rides to training camp (in Georgia), to my launch city, home, and for supplies along the way. Right now, I’m guess-itmating that will equal between $17,000 and $18,000 total. Remember though, this will be almost a year of my life.
-I will be using a backpack as my luggage. One big backpack and maybe a little one too. That’s it.
-While on the race, I’ll will be doing a lot of different things. My day-to-day might include: teaching english, building things, helping missionary families, playing with kids, feeding people, praying for people and things.
-No, I don’t speak any other languages besides english. I am sure at some point this will be a problem.
In the coming week, I will be taking the following steps forward: collecting addresses, writing and sending my support letters, figuring starting fundraising, drinking a lot of coffee, and answering any more questions coming my way.
And if I forget to say it, thank you for you help. Just reading this is supporting me and that helps. Thank you.
