Over the last couple of weeks, I’ve spent a lot of time asking questions.
Am I ready to do this?
Can I call myself a missionary?
Where did all of my energy go?
Will I be able to get over my baggage and find my purpose?
Speakings of baggage, will I be able to find the right bag for this trip?
How am I going to raise almost $17,000?
Big questions. Questions that sometimes empower me to keep going, keep trying, and keep asking questions that sometimes have no answers. Other times, these questions leave a bad taste in my mouth. All of these questions though all lead up to one that has given me a lot of trouble:
Will you help support me financially?
Will you support me financially? In the back of my mind, I assume the answer will be no. I assume you don’t have time or money or the cares to give to my journey. I don’t say this to belittle you. I say this because the world is crying out for your time, your cares, your money and I don’t know if my cause is something that will wake you up and take off the blinders you’ve had to put up. Still, you’ve proved me wrong every time I ask that question.
You shown me that I can ask this question and not fear judgement. You’ve shown me that you will take the time and the cares to ask questions because even if you don’t understand the cause, you care about me. I am a member of your family, your congregation, your yard sale list, one of your daughter’s oldest friends. You will give what you can in the moment and then take the time to consider giving more. And to that, I say thank you.
In the time you’ve graciously given me, you’ve asked me some great questions about giving. So the rest of this blog will be devoted to answering some of those questions.
Q: How much money do you need?
A: Officially I need $16,962. This is my general fund that will basically pay for every thing once I’m on the race minus personal purchases/activities. This includes travel (land, air, sea), lodging, food, administrative cost, training, debriefing. This total also includes my travel insurance and the cost of a debriefing course once I get back to the states.
Q: How long will you be gone?
A: 11 months. January to November of 2016.
Q: How can I give?
A: Since you’re already on my blog, you can go to the top of this page and click on ‘support me’. That will lead to where you can give electronically. This is where you can also register to give monthly.
Q: Can I just write a check?
A: Yes. If you’d rather give via a check, you can make the check out to “Adventures in Mission” with the code “CoxMolly” in the memo. This check can be mailed to Adventures in Mission in Atlanta Georgia. Contact me for a specific address. If you’d like to give this check to me personally, I can also mail it.
Q: Do I just have to send money?
A: Absolutely not. Over the next couple of months, I will be holding various fundraisers. At least one yard sale before the summer is out, a dinner in the end of August, and a T-Shirt fundraiser starting soon. Participating in any of these events will also donate to me.
Q: When do you have to have the money?
A: I have a series of financially deadline. The first one is on September 25 where I need to have $3,900 in the bank. Once the money from my garage sale and donations from my church is deposited, I will have made this deadline. My second deadline is December 18th. At that time, I need to have $10,000 in my account. On February 29th, I need to have $13,000. My final deadline is April 29th, and at time I need to be fully funded (see above). My personal goal is to be fully funded before I leave.
These are the most asked questions that have been asked but of course they are not all. If you have any more questions please ask in the comments or contact me and I’d love to answer them the best I can.
I’d also like to take the time thank anyone who has already give. You are helping me to answer God’s call with a simple action. It means more than you can ever know and I appreciate you and your decision to help me so very much.
