Yesterday my team and I made it to Medellin, Colombia after taking our last long bus ride in South America! I can’t believe we leave for Africa in less than a month.
At the end of September my entire squad met in Lima, Peru for a week to do leadership development with our leaders in the morning and then outreach in the afternoon. After this week we were given 15 days to get from Lima to Medellin, Colombia. We had free reign to get there whichever way we chose. So, after some prayer, my team decided to go through Ecuador and stay in Quito, Ecuador for a week.
I was put in charge of finding our lodging for this week. After looking through many websites I found an awesome Airbnb, but it was very much out of our price range. However, after some messaging back and forth with the owner, she agreed to reduce the price so it was in budget for us! So, we packed our bags, took a 39 hour bus ride, and made it to Quito with no plan except to pray and let the Lord lead us. When we got to the Airbnb we met the owner, Sara. After talking with her we learned this Airbnb is actually a place specifically for missionaries to stay. She also set us up with her friend John, who worked with a local school. Through this connection we were able to go to the school everyday and work with the teachers in their English classes. We also learned about nearby Venezuelan refugee camps and some of my teammates went there to form relationships, bring them clothes, and pray for them. It was amazing how we came to Quito with no plan and God so clearly and amazingly provided. We were also able to send the schools information back to Adventures in Missions to possibly make it a host spot for the next group of racers in Ecuador.
I’m learning more everday how faithful my God really is. Everywhere we go, He goes before us and provides. I can’t wait to see what He does these next few weeks here in Medellin!
