The least of these???
“Lord, when did we ever see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison and not help you??? And he will answer, I assure you, when you refused to help the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were refusing to help me.” Matthew 25: 44,45
As I walked the streets of Guatemala, I look into a world of people that are hungry, people that are thirsty, people that are sick…
And the same is true here in El Salvador. It’s even worse in El Salvador. And it breaks my heart.
While we go on prayer walks, people invite us into their shacks. I walk through their houses and I see that they have nothing. Their stove is a campfire. They have no fridges or even running water to have a sink. They have dirt for floors.
When I look at the kids, they are filthy. I’m not sure how often they get to bathe- not having a bathtub or a shower in their shack. If they need a bath they go to the nearest body of water and bathe there. That is also the place where they do their laundry. Gross!
I ask the Lord… What can I do??? Well… What would you do if one of them were Me??? Yeah- that’s slaps me right in the face! Is that what Jesus, means when He says, ” I assure you, when you refused to help the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were refusing to help me.” ???
Okay! Lord! What about the kids on the street that look at me with their brown beautiful eyes and wants to sell me something? But I tell them no and walk away.
But Lord, I don’t need what they are selling and then I’m reminded that, that’s their income. That’s what puts food on their table (if they have a table.)
As a result, what if one of the kids I walk away from is Jesus?
Lord, I want to do something! I don’t want to just keep WALKING by. I want to take action. I want to be a light in a dark place. Lord, I want to feed your people. I want to cloth them and give them water. I want to give them a home that looks like a home.
Lord, PLEASE show me what I can do because I can’t continue to pretend like this isn’t going on. We have a world of people that are hungry, thirsty, sick, and in prison. Lord, give me a VISION- give me something! Because in the mean time, people are starving.
PLEASE LORD, I JUST WANT TO DO SOMETHING…
