So what the heck happened in Guatemala. First of all, I would like to say sorry for not blogging and updating as much as I should be. When I was in Guatemala I had put so much pressure on blogging and impressing people with the “amazing” things I was doing. I began living in a way to make adventure happen so I could post, and not letting God work naturally. I decided to disconnect during Guatemala. I didn’t post blogs, many updates, or take many pictures. Coming from the states where we are social media addicted, I wanted to break the chains of needing approval through likes and reposts. God did SO much in my heart in Guatemala through disconnecting to connect. I was in the moment more than I ever had been before, and now that I have processed through all that God did there I want to share it with you. Not for likes, comments, or reposts, but to truly give God glory for what he did in that season.
In Guatemala I was living in a house with 4 guys & 2 other girls. We partnered with a christian school called Morning Glory. Everyday we rode the bus at 7 am with all the students and went to school to help in any way possible! I immediately jumped in with the adorable kindergarten class with Señora Claudia. She allowed me to sit in and help with her students! It was amazing! I got to put all my Spanish to use and actually help her with the class! I quickly became Señora Miriam, and they felt comfortable asking me questions for help with assignments just as they would with their actual teacher. My most favorite part of being in this class was loving on the kids. I gave and received about 50 hugs a day, and each child left that room knowing I loved them and cared for them.
Another thing we did at Morning Glory was teach the bible class! We sang, danced, did skits, and had a blast with these classes. Seeing the joy on the kids faces as they screamed-and I do mean screamed- songs about Jesus brought me great joy as well. We made relationships with students and built up from that. God taught me so much about how every one has a story, and every one’s story connects. That connection is Christ. He taught me about my story and how much it matters to God’s heart, and he is using that to allow me to encourage others in theirs.
So that is a majority of what happened in Guatemala, there is so much more but you’ll have to take me out in May to hear it! I expected to change lives, and I did. I may not have brought it to the masses and healed them, but I brought the gospel to a kindergarten class & God used them to heal me.
We all have a story, they may weave through different seasons of light and dark, but we all do have a story. Your story matters, so tell it & give God the glory.
