I’m sitting on a cold, hard floor watching the sweetest girls dance and twirl in their colorful embroidered dresses. I look over to Rose sitting next to me and we both laugh, amazed to be serving in Nicaragua. As the song slows, the girls walk out of the center and one of the youngest of the group comes and sits behind me saying  “cabello hermoso” as she starts playing with my hair. Her compliment surprises me as I had been admiring their beautiful hair and smiling faces since we arrived. I came to this orphanage to serve for only a week but somehow I knew this was only a taste of what God had planned for me.

My name is Miranda Delano, and I live in a small town in southern Maine with my family. I am eighteen, the middle child between an older sister who attends Belmont University and a younger brother in seventh grade. We live with our parents and have learned to really enjoy ‘forced family fun nights’ that my mom introduced to us years ago when family time seemed scarce. I love my family dearly and credit them with who I have become today. We also live with our four-year-old dog. He sleeps at my feet when I work and sleeps next to me in bed at night. While finishing high school at home and at a local community college, I nanny for two families. I love children and am excited to be with them even if it means really early mornings.

I look forward to meeting my squad and being on mission with them in eSwatini, South Africa, Ethiopia, and Cambodia. I would appreciate your support, prayers and communication as I begin this exciting adventure.

Thanks for reading, hope to hear from you! Miranda
