I've been home for a few weeks now, and have been asked how my transition home has been. So here's a little about how it feels to be back home.
Being home isn't that much different from the race.
I still eat oatmeal every morning.
I am sleeping on my sleeping mat on the floor of my bed room because my mattress was so bad that we threw it out. Unfortunately we couldn't afford to buy a new one.
I eat rice and / or tortillas at least once a day.
There are chickens and a rooster out in the backyard, and 2 dogs and a cat running around the house. And cows across the street.
I'm still living off of a really tight budget.
My wardrobe is still very limited because of all the weight I've gained.
I have a hot shower but it still needs to be short because I'm sharing our one bathroom with 2 other people.
I have my car but I still can't go anywhere I want because I don't have money for gas.
Our heater is a wood burning stove and our AC is a fan.
I still have to go somewhere for good WiFi, because we have bandwidth limits on our home internet.
The only things that are different are that:
I'm able to see the people that I've missed all year.
I'm unemployed so I have more free time. Which is starting to drive me crazy because I'm used to going and working all the time.
I can understand what people are saying (even when its in Spanish)
C-squad isn't with me to share in the wonders of being back in America.
I have my phone back!
I have a washer and a dryer now!
Its cold here!
There's soap and toilet paper in every public bathroom.
I don't have to worry about being electrocuted by the stove or shower.
All this to say that my transition home has been pretty easy. Its almost like I haven't left but there are things that remind me that I have.
