One of our ministries this week was to share the word with some widows. What happened next was amazing!
We went in expecting to just share a couple testimonies and a sermon but we were surprised with singing and dancing.
The widows meet at an orphanage where they help take care of the kids and create some home made crafts.
Their dancing was so filled with joy it was impossible to not dance with them. We had colorful wraps tied around our waist and then we were taught how to do one of their traditional dances. It was so amazing to be able to bond with these women like this and to see some of the spiciness that was still left in them.
After sharing our stories with them they told us how encouraged they were by us. But I think we were the ones who were encouraged by them! To be in a culture that's dominated by men and where being a single mother is hard, its amazing to see the faith that they have.
After this we went in a room next door and were told how we could help feed the orphans. We taught then some memory verses and then they taught us some songs. Many of the kids are sponsored through Children of the Nations. Without this sponsorship so many would go without food and school. The kids even know the name of the person who sponsors them!
To end the day we would call a group of children and lead them outside where they washed their hands and then receives their meal. You can see how thankful they are!
Its safe to say that this will be the most memorable day I've had in Malawi!
