I’ve been in Guatemala for 3 weeks now to the day and still haven’t written a blog about what I have been doing here. So here it is!
If I could describe my experience in one word so far, it would be “unreal”
My team spends our week days teaching English classes to kids in a village called Calderas.
Calderas is simple. It could take a person less than 20 minutes to walk the entire perimeter. It is not only simple in its physical stature, but it is characterized by the simple love shown by every person within it.
My team only teaches English classes for an hour maximum daily, and the rest of the time we are there, we visit people in their homes and find the needs of the community.
The crazy things is that, we are the ones trying to bless other people, when in actuality, these people are blessing my socks off. They don’t make loving people any more complicated than it has to be.
There have been so many occasions where people drop what they are doing and will invite us in to be a part of their family and to dine with them.
Sometimes this looks like a woman showing us her 100 pigeons and then teaching us to make tortillas. Other times it is a pastor inviting us inside his home to spend time with his wife who has kidney failure.
The place where God has me now is exactly where I am suppose to be. The first few months of my race, I felt like I was being put through the ringer of tough ministries or situations. I didn’t understand why though. I was told when I arrived here in Guatemala that I would walk through the fire, the fire being trials and difficulties. I know now that this fire is necessary. You can’t be refined if you don’t feel the heat.
I am so thankful for Guatemala and for the people and culture. I definitely am asking for prayer for the people we encounter who have illnesses and not the resources or money to receive proper care and medication. Thank you for taking a glimpse into my life right now, and as always, I literally love hearing from people and talking to you guys when I get the chance. Please let me know how you guys are doing or you can message or email me!
Blessings,
Milena
