I don’t like coffee.
If there’s cream, sugar, and caramel involved, you can put SOME coffee in it.
Other than that, I have no idea how you guys drink the stuff….except for those freezing camping mornings where it’s so cold that anything hot is good, even black coffee.
But we all know that one person; the person with wild hair, groggy eyes, and a look of utter disdain for every morning person on the planet. Once they finish their cup o’ joe though, they transform from zombie to human, and can go about their day.
I used to be that guy. Daytime was the necessary evil between sleep and that cup o’ joe.
“But you just said that you don’t like coffee?” Oops, sorry, that was a typo.
I used to be that guy. Daytime was the necessary evil between sleep and that cup o’ JOY.
My cup of joy was my time spent in God’s word. I would read it…..sometimes. I knew that life sucked when I didn’t so I tried to be as consistent as possible….but…well, you know the drill.
During Training Camp, I drank that joy all day, every day. I learned to love that joy. Forget my tin cup, where’s my Nalgene?! No sugar and cream needed, that joy was amazing!
Arriving home, I felt a little helpless. All I had was my little tin cup of joy. For a couple days, I drank my little cup of joy every morning, and just got by until the next morning. A chapter here, a chapter there.
One morning, after enjoying a warm shower and remembering how I had to use a small cup to shower at camp, I made a cup of tea. It was darn good and I wanted more for the day, so I grabbed my big water bottle. My bottle has a tiny mouth, so little by little, I filled my big bottle with my little tin cup.
I was using my little cup to prepare for the entire day! Why had I not thought of this sooner?! I LOVE my joy! I want it ALL the time! God has given me his word, a rushing river of joy!
Excited, I cleared my passenger seat in my car and placed my Bible on it. Unfortunately, I can’t swim in the river of joy all day, every day. That’s reserved for heaven. But I can scoop my little tin cup in it every chance I get!
Morning. Before work. During down times at work. On lunch break. When I get in my car to go home. When I get home. While I eat. Before I go to bed.
This is amazing joy and I want it all the time! No longer do I live cup of joy to cup of joy. I bring that cup with me, and I drink my cup of joy every chance I get!
There’s something amazing about that joy. When I go to sleep, my sleep is sweet. My nights are restful, and when I wake up, I literally wake up with songs of praise in my heart.
I cant help it! It’s Joy! It’s contagious!
Share your cup of joy with someone today cause the entire world needs a nice big cup o’ joy!
