So we made it!! We’re in India! Last week, we had a bunch of briefing as a whole squad and this week has been our first official week of ministry with my team of 7 gals. This month, my team is working at a home for kids with special needs [https://www.schindia.com]. It has been amazing so far, but totally different than any type of ministry that I’ve done in the past. Yesterday morning, (day 2 of ministry) I had a lot of built up frustrations that I brought to God and it was SO COOL to listen to the response that I got from Him!
Here’s my journal entry from yesterday:
“Hey God, feeling frustrated right now. Frustrated that I feel like I’ve been stepping out in faith to pray for healing & miracles & big prayers and seeing nothing. Frustrated that I want to hear from you but haven’t been hearing much lately. Frustrated that I want to be out in the streets praying for signs & wonders & miracles but instead I’m working with kids all month. Waiting to hear your voice, Papa.”
This is what I heard God speaking to me in response.
John 10:10 – the enemy is trying to rob you of joy, but I have you here for a perfect reason, my beloved child
Matthew 17:19-20 – have faith, my young paddawon
Psalm 46:10 – Be still & know that I am God. I’m working, just wait and listen. Be still!!
Luke 9:1-2 – you have authority to heal the sick and cast out demons in My name, Mikayla. Take advantage of where I’ve placed You!
Was honestly SO REFRESHING to hear God gently speak into all of my frustrations! His words made my day such an abundant one!
After that amazing time, I feel like God really showed me my place yesterday at our ministry! At each children’s home, there are one or two “foster parents” from America and probably about 10 Indian caretaker ladies called “ayas” that take care of the 15 children in each home.
Yesterday, I sat down with some of the ayas and they taught me how to say “Jesus loves you” in their native language. And they were SO ENCOURAGED!! I went around the whole children’s home telling every child and aya that Jesus loves them in their heart language. And every time, their face would light up in such a special way! Kids that usually give me blank stares would smile so big. Ayas that try to keep a serious, poised posture would break out laughing and smiling! The power of Jesus’ love is so strong, and I really got to experience it yesterday! It breaks down walls, heals hurting hearts, and lifts people up.
The kids at these homes are loved on so much by everyone who works there, but the ayas are often overlooked, and they need encouragement just as much as these kids. I’m so excited to continue to love on these ladies over the next few weeks here in India!! (And tell randos on the street that Jesus loves them hehe)
Here are some of the amazing ayas!! (had to try to take candids because they don’t often smile in pics)
