Procrastination I feel is a word we can all relate with…some more than others. I on one hand am way too familiar with this word and would probably consider myself a pro unfortunately. As I proceed to even write this blog I get thoughts of “hey I can just do this later tonight, I have plenty of time” RIGHT there though, “I have plenty of time” who says that I have plenty of time?!?
As a young adult I get stuck thinking that I am still invincible and still have plenty of years to live and things to experience before I grow old and maybe then it will be my time to go. But why am I so naive to think that it’s my decision to as what the date will be when my time here on earth is done. Then by thinking so, I then live according to “my” estimated plan and therefore get caught in the procrastination mindset. Oh I still have plenty of time to rekindle that relationship that went so haywire years ago, or to show or tell someone how much they mean to me or that goal that I made last New Year’s “there’s always next year” , or perhaps just spending time with your family instead of working 24/7. The list can go on and on.
Here is a prime example of procrastination and using excuses in Luke 14:16-21:
Luke 14:16-21
English Standard Version (ESV)
16But he said to him, "A man once gave a great banquet and invited many. 17And at the time for the banquet he sent his servant[a] to say to those who had been invited, 'Come, for everything is now ready.' 18But they all alike began to make excuses. The first said to him, 'I have bought a field, and I must go out and see it. Please have me excused.'19And another said, 'I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I go to examine them. Please have me excused.' 20And another said, I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come.' 21So the servant came and reported these things to his master. Then the master of the house became angry and said to his servant, 'Go out quickly to the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in the poor and crippled and blind and lame.'
So there are obviously things in life that we push off due to the mainstream procrastination mindset. BUT, I know that I don’t want to have regrets or what if’s in my life and is part of the reason I am taking this World Race adventure to follow as what I see God’s plan for me. I want to share God’s love with the people He created and show them that the Gospel is not something you want to keep on pushing off. God gave us life and therefore can take it away; urgency is of the essence. Our life on this world compared to eternity…I’d say our life is tad bit shorter, I’m not a mathematician but think I’m right 😉
So my goal in this blog is not to try and scare myself or ya’ll into not procrastinating important things in life but to rather just reevaluate how you are living and who are you living for. Are you living as though each moment may be your last or just pushing things off again? Think eternally not worldly
