Luckily, I was put on a team with some very adventurous girls.
As I mentioned in my last blog, my team and I are currently living in the mountains of Honduras, where we’re teaching and doing manual labour at a small school. The first thing I thought as I looked up at the mountain behind our house was, “I wanna go up there.” So after ministry (cutting grass, clearing a field and helping level a road by the house), some of the girls and I decided we would venture “up there.”
Earlier when leveling the road, a small old man had emerged from the tall grass on the side of this mountain, so we assumed there had to be some sort of path or trail we could take up. We were right…sort of. Quickly we discovered the only path up and down the mountain was a very narrow and very muddy cow trail, made up of massive cow hoof holes. We stepped from rock to rock to mud pile all the way up the mountain. We laughed, we sweat, we fell in piles of mud and potential cow poop and it’s safe to say that all of our shoes are officially brown and will never be the same level of clean as they were.
It was messy. It took strength and endurance. But it was worth every bead of sweat and tired muscle. The beauty we witnessed was indescribable. I’ve never seen and been on more beautiful mountains. When I looked out over Gods perfect creation I had no doubt in my mind that He was right there beside me, as I stood breathless in awe. Time after time, the Lord provides for me in times of need. He works in perfect time to take care of me and support me through the good and bad. I have seen how good He is and how endless His power is. I have seen the vastness of His creation and yet I am still surprised by Him. He continues to prove to me that He is better than I can fathom. My mind simply can’t comprehend that greatness of my father.
We fell just as much on the way down as we did on the way up. Thankfully we all made it down in one peace. Although I was covered in mud and sweat and my ankles were thoroughly cut up from prickly plants, I was filled with overwhelming joy and energy. Definitely a successful first adventure in Honduras, with some of my favourite people in the world.
