A couple weeks ago, we walked from church to a store so we had our bibles and were dressed a little nicer. Lol  A man was sitting there and he asks us if we go to church.  We told him that we had been to Life Ministries church.  He introduced himself and said that he was a police officer in Belize.

Then he shared with us the gospel of Jesus Christ.  At church we had studied Romans 8 about no condemnation in Christ and this man started sharing the same thing.  There is no condemnation in Christ.  The devil is the great accuser, but that is all he can do is lie and accuse.  But Jesus is greater than he who is in the world.

This man was excited that we are here in Belize sharing the Word of God.  We got his contactinformation and he came by a couple of times.

Tuesday, my team and I were doing our quiet time when the officer walked up the stairs in the hotel.  He greets us by name and sits to encourage us more in Jesus.  This man is so wise and knows the scripture. Then he asks if we were doing anything. He calls the police station and refers to himself as lieutenant and basically tells them that we are coming.

How good is our God?!? He orchestrated things so perfectly.  We follow Lieutenant to the police station, which is a short walk down the hill.  He takes us on a tour of the station.  We meet the commander, see some video footage and then walk through another door.

We meet some men that are in the jail cells.  They were in a room with cement floors, a tiny window, an iron gate and a bucket. It was sobering to hear their stories and see their faces.

I think the thing that stuck out to me the most was the lieutenant.  He boldly asked them about Jesus and shared the gospel with them. He just loved on them and cared for them.  This high-ranking officer that everyone called boss, stood outside the gate to learn their stories.  He asked for numbers to call for them and after we left; he advocated for the prisoners. We ended up praying for them and then leaving.

As we left, there was a man waiting to return to prison from a doctor’s visit.  He was in a wheelchair.  The lieutenant stopped and prayed for healing.  But more, he told the man to look to Jesus for healing, that Jesus was putting a new vision in his heart for him to walk again.  Jesus was doing a new thing in his heart.

I am amazed by what Jesus is doing in this place but even more what I have learned from believers here. This man demonstrated that in everything we do we are to give glory to God.  I think God uses the tiny moments to make the biggest impact.  The tiny “yes, Lord” turns into life changing events.

Some verses came to mind after we left the station.  Isaiah 61 says, “The Spirit of the Lord God is on me because the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent me to heal the broken hearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and freedom to the prisoners.”

My friends, let’s not wait any longer in bringing good news to the people around us – whether in a physical prison or a spiritual prison.  We have the answer, the hope, and the freedom in Christ – be bold in telling.  I grew up hearing that it is better to just show people Jesus’ love through our actions.  But, my dear friends, words are powerful.  Yes, back up your words with actions – but do not mute your words.  In Revelation 12:11 says that believers conquered the accuser “by the blood of the Lamb and by the WORD of their TESTIMONY.”

I write this to you, my dear friends, and to myself, so that I can remember the boldness and wisdom of this Lieutenant and to remember the power of speaking out our faith.

Love you.
