It’s been 7 days and we have done so much. But first I want to introduce you to my team! My team is made up of 3 guys and 3 girls. Our name is Grit. The definition for grit is firmness of character, indomitable spirit and pluck. I think this is perfect for our team because we have lots of pluck and determination! But also it seems God is working individually and as a team to build each of our character to be more like Him.
This month in Belize we are doing Ask the Lord month. This means that our ministry is whatever and wherever Jesus leads us. I’m sure you are thinking…what does that look like? So far, it has been walking the streets of San Ignacio and building relationships with people we meet. San Ignacio is a smaller city with a twin city (Santa Elena) across the river. We have walked downtown most days and have started to explore the northwest area. We met up with a church called Life Ministries and are looking to partner with them more these next couple weeks.
BUT FIRST, introducing TEAM GRIT!
- Describe yourself in 3 words.
- What animal would you be and why?
- What are you most looking forward to on the World Race?
- It’s been 5 days, how are you feeling? 🙂
Rashad Cohen: TEAM LEADER
1. Goofy, passionate, dreamer
2. A black panther because it’s the prettiest and smoothest animal to exist. And I’m black and smooth. So that makes me a black panther.
3. Truly submerging myself in God and knowing Him on a level that I didn’t know exist.
4. I feel good. It feels longer than 5 days though. At times I ask myself, “what did I get myself into?” And at other times I’m literally in awe and telling myself, “this was just a prayer years ago and now I’m living it. Thank you God.”
Maggie Harrell
1. Passionate. Caring. Determined.
2. I would be a river otter. They hold their friend’s hands when they sleep so they don’t float away from each other – that’s some serious loyalty. And they also keep a rock in the secret pocket under their arm and just play with the rock whenever they’re bored or just want to have a little fun!
3. In the World Race, I am looking to deepen my faith. I’m seeking new ways to view the Lord, to hear the Lord, and to feel the Lord. I want to experience the Holy Spirit in ways that literally blow me away and change the way I live my live. I also am always craving adventure and seeking new parts of the world, and seeing 11 countries in a year is a chance of a lifetime.
4. I don’t know exactly how I’m feeling. I don’t think it’s hit me yet that I won’t be seeing my family, friends, or my dog any time soon. It still feels like a long vacation. I feel overwhelmed by all that God has already done within me, the team, and the people of San Ignacio. I also feel expectant as to what the Lord will continue to do, because I know that He has only started working and moving in our lives.
Isaac Sanders
1. Vulnerable Weird and deep
2. Probably a wolf because the pack seems very close like a brotherhood
3. Just to watch myself grow stronger in my faith
4. I’m blown away God has done so many things already
Samuel Saucedo
1. I, don’t, know (approachable, correctable, encourager)
2. A lamb? because that’s what God wants me to be more like as our Shepard. Fully dependent on Him.
3. To be all that God made me to be by the end
4. I currently feel tired and yet overwhelmed by all that God has done so far and all that I believe He still wants to do.
Raquel Esquibel
- Joyful: I choose joyful as my first word because in July of 2017 I chose the word joy as my word for the year. I proclaimed the word joy over my life until it became reality. Strong: This is one of my biggest strengths but can also be oneof my biggest weaknesses. Sarcastic: This is something that people either really like about me or dislike. I use sarcasm in a joking manner, I use sarcasm when I am uncomfortable, to lighten a mood or as a defense mechanism. God is working on me with this one and yes I am fighting him a little, haha. You may be wondering why I chose this word but I choose it to be vulnerable and honest so that you can really get to know me.
- If I could be one animal I would choose a polar bear (because there are cool), a dolphin (they seem to really love life!) or a bird (because they can fly and I love to travel). Sorry I couldn’t just choose one.
- want to be more like Jesus as an outcome of the World Race. I want to see His world and His people!
- I am feeling good! I’m not sure whether this has all settled in yet. I think somewhere in my mind I still think I am going home in a few weeks. I feel Iike I am in the honeymoon stage and everything is still all new and exciting…ask me again in four months, lol.
Michelle Jamison: Team Treasurer
1. Strong. Peaceful. Compassionate.
2. I would be a giraffe because as the tallest mammal of the world they would have a different perspective than other animals.
3. I am most looking forward to experiencing Jesus through new cultures and watching Him work through me in completely jaw dropping ways.
4. I feel like I need another shower after I just took one! (I’ll get used to the sticky heat, right? lol)
There is someone else I would like to introduce to you because…well..you might see more of him during this month. When we arrived in San Ignacio, we met a man named Rudy who has been helping take care of us. He has a 14-year-old son. His son has been joining us most days so far and this weekend; he spent the majority of the days with us. It has been so fun getting to know him and he wanted to share as well.
Alberto:
1. funny gamer dork
2. I would be a bunny because they’re cute and lovely
3. He’s not on the World Race so the question was: What are you most looking forward to? to be a professional football player and to be a Christian
4. I am feeling good because I am hanging with the coolest people in the world he really wrote this and I had to hug him
Bonus: If you could go anywhere in the world where would you go? I would go to Australia to see people I never seen before
THANKS FOR READING! LOVE YA!
