Tonight we had a bible study on Psalm 23. There is so much good truth in this little famous psalm. I am just going to focus on one verse and a sermon from Louie Giglio.
Verse 5 says “You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.”
From studying this psalm, it was pointed out that in the middle David changes his voice. Instead of talking about the Lord, he started talking TO the Lord.
As he goes through the valley, David experiences a new intimacy with the Lord. He fears no evil and knows the Shepherd will protect him.
In the middle of battle, God prepares a banquet for him. God provides and sustains. Louie said that God prepares a table in the presence of our enemies so that they will watch God sustain and protect us.
But it’s easy to let the enemy sit at our table. Louie said there are three ways to know if the enemy has sat down at our table with the Lord.
- If we hear a voice saying that we will not make it through the valley.
- If we hear we are not good enough.
- If we hear that everyone is against us.
Instead of listening to the voice of our Shepherd we listen to the voice of the enemy. The voices of the enemy or our flesh are NOT our friends but sometimes we get too comfortable with those voices. To quote my squad mentor, “the only way to survive the enemy being at our table is to LOCK EYES on our Shepherd.”
Y’all there was so much that I need to meditate on from this study! A question I want to think about this week is: when I am surrounded by the enemy, what is the instant gratification that I reach for rather than reaching for my Shepherd?
I invite you all to study this, listen to Louie Giglio’s sermon and let me know what God speaks to you!
Love ya!
