For the past two weeks I have been living on a boat on the Amazon River in a little Jungle town called Nauta. The community living has truly begun. We are sharing a mighty small space for 35 people. Though it’s been tough it’s been a blessing really getting to be a family with the people on my squad.
When we first arrived the pastor of the church that we have been working with told us a little bit about the community. He said that there has been a lot of witch craft and in general there is a lot of witch craft in the jungle. The teenagers often play with Ouija boards and make deals with demons. He has had services where he has cast out several demons in on evening. He told us he would like us to work with the children and teenagers while we were here because that is the majority of the church.
We have spent two weeks doing ¨Fiesta Con Dios¨( ¨party with God¨formally known as VBS) and we started a Youth Group for the teenagers here.
The Lord has blessed me with a heart for teenage girls and it filled my heart with joy being able to be involved in a Youth Group here. We got to have our girls’ accountability time and talk to them about relationships and who God says they are vs. who the world says they are. They had a lot of questions about their identity in Christ and asked us if we could talk about that more. I learned so much about my identity in Christ and recognized so many lies that the world has told me about who I am just listening to them and the other WR that were involved. After our relationship discussion we had time for questions and one of the girls asked ¨Is it true that we should be seeking God when we are young like 13-15 and then seeking marriage when your older and if that’s true how do you seek God? So we got to share with them how to seek the Lords face and why it’s best to have your identity in Christ before you have a relationship with a man. It was so beautiful to be able share our hearts with them and teach them how to seek the Lord. I pray they were as blessed as I was by our time together.
