We have made it to Africa; we landed down in South Africa on Saturday the 28th. For the first few days we spent our time in Johannesburg at a hostel to take time to get travels together before heading out to our ministry sites. Due to safety in this particular city, we weren’t allowed to leave the hostel and spent three nights held up. It was a sweet time to spend time with the Lord, catch up with squad mates, and get rested for the month ahead. However, I was allowed to leave the hostel on Sunday with the company of my squad mate Ricki. I have a dear friend at home, Sandra Duncan, who is from South Africa, and her parents live 20 minutes from where I was staying. So I had the privilege to spend the day with the Duncan’s and chance to see Sandra’s homeland.

The day started by being picked up at 8am from the hostel and heading to the Duncan crib to have breakfast before heading to church. We had bran cereal and it was the best cereal I have ever had in my whole life, complete with a cup of tea. Then we were off to Grace Baptist Church, where we were greeted with many smiling face that all spoke English. This is the church Sandra was attending at home. It was so great to meet her people and see what church looked like for her at home. I knew I was at a Baptist church when after the service there was tea/coffee and cookies (or biscuits as they call it in South Africa). We then headed to the local mall to do a bit of shopping, due to the fact that it is much cooler in South Africa than it was in Asia. It was back to the Duncan crib to then head to lunch at a BBQ restaurant. There I had my first steak on the race, and it was so yummy! Then back to the Duncan crib to sit around and shoot the breeze. About 4pm we were dropped off back at the hostel. Upon returning our squad greeted us wanting to know about our day.

Let me just say the day was fabulous, and it was such a privilege to see Sandra’s homeland. I met her family, went to her church, and got to see her home. The Lord continues to provide for me in such ways He never has before, due to my dependence on Him daily. Seeing the Duncan family was a great entrance into Africa and also renewed my soul. This is the second country that I have been able to see people I know from home. I was so blessed this day by them, and my heart overflowed by sharing life with them for a day. It was just a typical day in the life of the Duncan’s. Thank you so much for allowing me to spend the day and being so hospitable to us!

As we landed in Africa and have spend a couple of days here, the Lord has given me words for the month- words of newness and taking this month to be very intentional in conversing with Him. Not only is this a new continent but also the people here do things differently than in Asia. Especially after leaving a closed country, this is a now a time to be bold for the Lord. This month is one to take every opportunity I have to share God’s love, to do it without fear and in boldness.

I ask you please be praying for me as we enter a new month of ministry and this new continent. God is so good and continues to show me Himself daily. I am still not sure details of what I will be doing this month, but it is going to be great. Stand by for more blogs about this month and what the Lord is doing in and around me.

Support Update:

After monthly supporters, I am still $400 from being fully funded in December. I ask you to pray fully consider financially supporting me to enable me to finish The World Race.
