Today marks the beginning of a new life for a woman named Som in the 42-house village in Kampong Cham, Cambodia! This is a woman who has been paralyzed for the last year in a half; she can use the upper part of her body but not the lower part of her body. This means she lives in a hut that is only big enough for her and there is no one to take care of her. Her family has nothing to do with her and the people of the village treat her as an outcast. I would say this woman is about 60 years old and has also lost the use of her left arm due to her lack of movement. Before our first day in the village, our wonderful contact Maricel had shared with us that there was a lame woman and for us to pray for her daily. She also informed us that we take food to her and we are her source of food. The first day we went we immediately went over to her hut to pray and spend some time with her. That very day the Lord placed this woman on my heart and to see her healed. Not only physically healed but also spiritually healed and to understand God’s love for her. We returned for a second day and went to pray over her again and spend a few minutes with her but continued on to play with the children.
Som's hut
Today was my third visit to this village and let me tell you the Lord met us there abundantly today. My teammate Megan and myself had the opportunity to love on this woman and share the Gospel with her. It began by us holding her hand and praying life over her. Little did I know when we arrived I would spend the next hour with this woman and sharing about how much God loves her. We began by sharing with her how God has sent us to love her for 2.5 weeks and share His love with her. There was a translator with us and as he shared with her what we were saying, immediately she began to weep. These were the same kind of tears that were used to wash Jesus’ feet.
“And behold, a woman of the city, who was a sinner, when she learned that he was reclining at table in the Pharisee's house, brought an alabaster flask of ointment, and standing behind him at his feet, weeping, she began to wet his feet with her tears and wiped them with the hair of her head and kissed his feet and anointed them with the ointment.” Luke 7:38-39
Som was crying tears of joy and happiness that she has never known. If she has known this happiness, it has been a very long time. We shared with her she is not alone and God is with her ALL the time. Even after we leave we will be praying for her and she will ALWAYS have a place in our hearts.
The beautiful Som
In this village we have been praying about funds to come in to fix a well and the Lord provided so abundantly. We have received more than enough and are fixing the well today. We shared this with her and she was weeping yet again. With each tear she shed; we were praying for her and crying with her. So we took the opportunity to share with her the story of the Samaritan woman at the well.
“Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is that is saying to you, ‘Give me a drink,’ you would have asked him, and he would have given you living water.” John 4:10
She understood what this means for her and for the village. Again tears of joy came streaming down her face and overwhelmed her and us.
We got Som’s permission to share her story and her picture with you. So I come to you today to ask you to be partnering with me in praying for Som. She is a woman who knows no love and there is no one to care for her. We will show her as much love as we can the next 2 weeks but then we leave. A piece of my heart will always be with Som! Rally with me to be praying for this woman and this 42-house village. I believe I will see her healed before I leave Cambodia and she will pick up her mat to leave her hut. Please put her in your prayers, prayer lists, social media, and anyway to get the word out to be praying for her. Pray for physical and spiritual healing, for her to walk but understand God’s love for her. We told her we would have people all over the world praying for her. Thanks for your time and prayers in advance. If you would like to know more, contact me: [email protected].
