It’s our
third official day here in sunny Mexico. 70 Degrees – Wahoo! Days have mainly consisted of seminars and
getting oriented with Race Rules and other logistics stuff. Before jumping into all of the details,
however, we were given a day off to spend in solitude with the Lord. It was honestly an incredible way to spend
New Years Day. Different, but good. With so much going on lately – so many
details to take care of before leaving and so much to think about, it was nice
to finally slow down for a bit. We were
allowed the entire day to simply sit and spend time in silence and in
prayer. In the end, the day for me was
filled with numerous lessons from the Lord.
What
struck me the most about our day of silence was how extremely refreshing it
was. It truly is amazing how
little rest and silence we experience
or seek in our world today. The TV, our home stereos, our iPods, our car radios
– we always have to have
something
on. In both our ears
and our eyes. How interesting that it’s possible to have
visual
noise as well. We bombard ourselves and
our lives with so much action and movement and sound … and we wonder why we
have a hard time finding/hearing God or knowing what he sounds like!
Before
our day of silence, we viewed a Nooma video entitled “Noise.” It asked several striking questions about
why it is so hard for us as human beings to simply be silent, listen, and wait
for the Lord to speak. I think that when
it comes down to it, deep down, we all have a fear that we really won’t hear
anything and he really won’t speak. BUT
… more than that, I think we really are
more
afraid of what the Lord might say when he does speak. Are we really prepared for what he has to
tell us? I believe that we busy
ourselves and add noise and action to our lives (whether knowingly or not) so
we don’t have to face the voice (or the silence) of God. We fool ourselves into thinking we are okay …
we’re fine. We don’t have to think about
the hard stuff or the God stuff when there’s other stuff so loud to focus our
attention on and daily lives on.
Because
whether we face the fact or not, sitting alone with the
God of the Universe
and waiting for Him to speak …. now that’s
BIG.
Just some
thoughts from my day with the Lord.
Blessings to you all.
