My team is staying with two other teams in a smaller city outside of Hyderbad. Ten of us sleep in a large room above the Covenant Church offices. We are working with India Christian Ministries, specifically visiting villages with an after school program for kids. We pray for families and do a short teaching for the kids.
This area is hot and full of biting ants and mosquitos and bumpy roads. It is full of financial not enoughs. We are staying across from people’s homes that are literally shacks or sheds. We visit homes that are a single room with a leaky roof for a family of four. Most of the kids have lice and greasy hair. There is garbage everywhere that animals eat from and people collect bottles from.
But the people we’ve met in India are full of hope. We see kids with shining eyes and smiling faces. We see kids sing song after song about how Jesus is enough. We see men and women desperately calling out to the Lord for their lives and their health. And we see people who have seen God heal their bodies in miraculous ways.
We see people who offer us their absolute best. Who prepare their choice food and serve us generously. We have been taken care of and protected in dangerous areas and crazy streets.
In brokenness and a lack of things and money we see fullness of life. God has not abandoned His people. He has walked with all of them as He walks with all of us. Just being here is a blessing. India is beautiful.
