My team and I thought of something innovative and cool that we’re pretty sure has never been done before. Every year, on the day you were born, you should throw some sort of party for yourself. We’re thinking of calling it your “Birthday.” And, instead of asking for presents from friends, you should pick your favorite cause *ahem, ours, ahem* and start a Birthday (and/or Christmas?) Fundraiser. Awesome, right?!
If you made it here, it’s probably because I noticed you have one of these birthday things between now and Jan. 24th (Thanks for the heads up, Facebook!). Because presents are so overrated these days, and you typically get something relatively meaningless to add to your collection of other meaningless items, you should consider the following instead: Be super awesome by donating your birthday to partner with me and Change Your World (and likely get relatively meaningless but super awesome stuff from us instead)!
This November I had an opportunity to work with Change Your World in Malaysia. CYW empowers the millennial generation to rise up and take a stand against modern day slavery. They host large events in various cities around the world that use unique creativity, music, dance and professional speakers to engage young people and raise awareness of the nearly 30 million people trapped in modern day slavery today.
In the time it’s taken you to read this far (~60 sec), two more children have been sold into slavery. The average sex trafficking victim is forced to have sex 20-48 times a day. This injustice fires me up and I believe in what Change Your World is doing to combat it. I want to go from Slacktivist to Activist, helping them reach their goal to expand in 2015 and become self-sustaining at the next level.
Here’s where you come in. Would you be willing to donate your birthday in exchange for this cause (and some free swag)? You can start it today!
