Hello friends!
I want to tell you about 3 of my new friends. They have interesting names (simply because they are ones I made up lol) Yesterday we wne to visit the GK construction site that International Care Ministries (ICM) has been working on. This is a home site and the recipients are transferred from the slums. In order to be a recipient, you have to help build your house plus the other ones in the community. They really instill a sense of true community and do their best to build it up. We were just supposed to tour the site and didn’t think we’d be working there until today. Wrong. So we made bricks, mixed cement, and put together walls…in flip flops and a skirt lol. Before that we were waiting on some materials so we coud help. I couldn’t help but notice the group of kids playing basketball nearby. I made my way over and asked if I could play. I quickly noticed that I was not about to be making very many baskets. A regulation sized basketball goal will fit 2 men’s basketballs side by side…this one: barely one! And I was right…I didn’t make many lol. The boys all looked similar and I needed a way to determine which ones were on my team. I couldn’t pronounce their names let alone remember them. So they got nicknames that represented the clothing they were wearing. Sharkey for his shark swim trunks, Spidey for his Spiderman shirt of course, and Turtle for the turtle on his t-shirt. They loved them. We had a great time! We also had the opportunity to visit two of the pre-schools here that ICM runs as well as visit a site for a new church in the jungle. Please pray that they can raise enough money to start ordering materials. The starting materials cost 6,000 pesos, which is only like $130 dollars! I think we’ll get the opportunity to start clearing some of the bush where the church will be built.
El Nido is quite simply: Amazing!! This is by far the most beautiful place I have ever visited. You should check out pictures. We are extremely blessed to be staying in such nice accomodations! Our team should have a video posted sometime this month with those details 🙂 I did laundry today (finally!) let’s just pray it dries by the morning…or else I’m wearing the same thing tomorrow as I did today.
Much love from the Philippines!!!
