Ø If you had to live out of the bag on your back for 1 year, what would you bring??
Ø If that bag had a 50lb weight limit….what would you have to leave out?
These questions roll and race through my mind almost constantly. I see something useful, or cute, or lightweight , or versatile, or sturdy and my minds eye packs…and unpacks the item in my World Race bag.
Ø How will this item handle _____??
ü heat
ü moisture
ü cold
ü full out rain
ü mud
ü children pulling
ü miles walking
ü sharp rocks
ü modesty standards (for each specific country- ie: no ankles in India, skirts only in Africa)
ü being tossed around in transit
ü being sat on
ü dragged around
ü being left behind or stolen
Ø Is this one thing REALLY worth carrying around for 1 year…. Really?
Ø Do I actually need this… or just think I do?
Ø If I don’t take this, will I miss it?
And yet, this one statement by Jesus rolls around in my virtual pack…. “take nothing for the journey-no staff, no bag, no bread, no money, no extra shirt” (Luke 9:3) …….WWWHHHAAAAATTTTTT!?!?!??!!
Here I am stressing about what to bring or not to bring… and Jesus makes the decision perfectly simple by telling us to take nothing!
Imagine my relief when it settles in that the Lord did not actually tell me not to bring anything, but He wants me to know that I don’t need anything.
