Nestled rather uncomfortably in a rigid metal chair at a bright orange table with harsh white lighting, I looked up from my Bible stirring my much too hot tea, waiting for the steam to abate enough for me to take a non scalding sip. At the Dunkin Donuts counter ahead of me stood an oddly dressed woman who instantly captured my attention. I knew the Lord drew me to her so I took off my headphones, looking for whatever opportunity might present itself to strike up a conversation. As she came closer, I discovered a thinly veiled man, facial hair and all, with a pink bow tucked into his wig who came to sit a few tables away. I wish I could say it was simple and easy to strike up the conversation, but going from zero to buddies sometimes takes intentionality. After wrestling for a bit with myself against the clear gnawing of the Spirit that I needed to talk with her/him, I blurted out something about wishing their were a cozy quaint coffee shop around for people like us to visit instead of such a harsh uninviting D&D. A little shocked that I was talking to him, my new friend and I began some friendly conversation. I told Him that I like to sit and have time with Jesus out and about and asked if there was anything I could pray for him about. He proceeded to tell me about some health issues he had been having. I assured him that he was so important to God that I would absolutely bring his request to the Lord. I learned a lot about the man in the pink bow, including the fact that his daughter and her family are faithful believers and would be shocked to find out that he dresses up, though he’s been doing it for years. Though his personal idea about God is most closely related to the imaginations of the human mind. So, naturally, I invited him to church :0) We will see if he comes…. He did affirm that few people ever talk with him while he is ‘dressed up’. Jesus would have. So I did.
But for now, would you join with me in praying for the man with the pink bow? Not only for his healing, but for his soul. More specifically, that Jesus would use the healing of his body to supernaturally turn his heart to God and that Jesus would show him something new about the deep love He has for him.
Keep an eye out for my friend, and others like him. Using wisdom and discernment, ask Jesus to empower you with courage, opportunity, and words to act as Jesus would to these loved ones :o)
