Hello friends, its been a while. I don’t even know where to begin this blog other than greetings from South Africa. I LOVE it here. But, lets rewind for a while.
Zoom in on April 26th, Panama City, me and my team in our tiny hostel room. There were 7 of us in one small room with 3 bunk beds tied together. It was quite the set up, but we were all so grateful for wifi and AC. When one person even moved an inch on their bed, it felt like an earthquake. It was comical really. We even had a surprise closet shower.
I affectionately called my bunk, my little jail cell because I never wanted to leave the room and enter the sweaty 95 degree weather just outside our door. PS, I only call it a jail because we didn’t get out much during our week of Unsung Hero’s. We did have meetings with potential hosts and great new contacts but it was only a few of us at a time. And we didn’t have any adventures that week. But the morning of the 26, after hastily packing our bags then trying to mail a package home, we finally left my little jail.
Yay!! Moving to cooler weather! Finally!
We took two public busses to the airport, and connected with the rest of my squad. We checked in and dropped off our bags and boarded our first flight from Panama City to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. 7 1/2 hours later we landed in the middle of the night after getting to fly over the Amazon rainforest for 4 of those hours. We were kindly escorted to our next flight, a 14 hour flight from Rio to Dubai.
Most of us slept, or watched a lot of movies, or both. Somehow we took off in the middle of the night, it became daylight for a few hours, then it was night again. We saw the Nile River from the plane, that was awesome. We got dinner/meal in Dubai at midnight, then boarded our last plane around 3am.
Our final leg of the trip was a 9 hour flight to Cape Town, South Africa. Pretty sure I just watched movies on this flight. Once we landed we breezed through customs then took taxi’s to our amazing hostel for debrief. After 40+ hours of constant travel I slept so good that night.
Debrief was amazing as well. I slept, a few times. lol. We had time to process and relax and even see some of Cape Town.
Just a few highlights were climbing Lions Head at sunrise…. it was amazing!!
See….

Another was exploring Cape Point with Alissa. It was beautiful and breathtaking. How can anyone not believe in God when you see what He created! It was amazing.
The most important thing that happened at debrief in Cape Town was that we had team changes. This is something we all knew was coming, and we were all nervous about it. But I took a leap of faith and trusted that God knew the best thing for me. Meet my new team, Relevant Love. 🙂 Alex, Caroline, Scarlett, Alissa, Sarah, and Evan.
