In order to earn money for my trip, I picked up a third job at a local diner and coffee house.  Bon Jovi’s song ‘Livin’ on a Prayer’ has been stuck in my head for the last few weeks as a result.  I find myself dashing from the kitchen to my customer’s table mumbling/humming…“Gina works the diner all day…”

In these next few months I’ll be spending most of my time working and working out, preparing myself physically and monetarily for this trip.  When first faced with the idea of a long summer of work, work, work…I got a little frustrated.  I am not a fan of being in one place for long.  I love to travel.  Spontaneous road trips are my favorite.  When you work every day of the week except Sunday, last-minute trips are not really allowed.

Things are better than I thought they would be.

I don’t like to settle in one place, but I find myself loving where I am.  Louisville, KY doesn’t seem to be the bee’s knees when you first look at it.  It’s not even that impressive after you’ve been looking at it for years.  But in the past few months I’ve been able to explore a little more and uncover corners of town and friends that I really love.

I have a tendency to look ahead to the next big adventure and forget where I am.  But I feel like it is imperative that I do not do that as I prepare for this World Race.  The Race isn’t until January.  For now I am here.  There so much that can still be done in the next 9 months and there is no reason to miss out on it just because a big trip is coming along.

I may be hard to keep track of next year while I’m racing from country to country.  But for the next months I plan to be easy to find.  Look for me down at Quills Coffee encouraging some friends (or, more often…being encouraged by friends), at Sojourn Community Church learning and serving, on the Indiana University Southeast campus working and studying, at the gym learning how to push myself and be diligent, or at my little diner humming some Bon Jovi.

I am excited about a busy and simple summer and fall.
