Growing up there were always fun Acronyms for our favorite Christian sayings like WWJD (What would Jesus Do?) SYATP (See You At The Pole) COW (Church on Wednesdays) and several others, but one that was said often but never really taught on the how to was FROG (Fully Relying on God).

We live in a day and age where self-reliance is the key to being seen as a successful adult and human being. You’re assigned credit and status based on how well you have done and how little help you had getting there. So to fully rely on someone other than ourselves is a concept that totally goes against the grain.

So what does it mean to FULLY rely on God? When one becomes a Christian we talk about giving everything over to God, but in reality we only tend to give the things that have the least impact if something goes wrong or doesn’t need our attention.

Back in 2010 I was a reporter for the Lake Country Sun out of Palo Pinto County in Texas. I had one of the most amazing editors a reporter could ever ask for and an amazing mentor. One time I turned in an article and I used the phrase all in reference to a summary of what had happened. After reading the article and making the red pen edits he wrote to the side “ALL? you mean to tell me for the first time in human history this group of politicians unanimously agreed on something whole heartedly? Did you go by and ask EACH and EVERYONE of them?” Of course the answer was no. I had rushed through the article and was trying to complete it in time for the deadline. Being the only reporter this was not the only article I had to complete.

But that questioning of ALL has stuck with me throughout the years and made a lasting impact.

So what does it look like to FULLY, COMPLETELY  Rely on God?

Well that is a lesson that I have been learning in full force for the last couple of years. To fully rely on his deliverance from a life of addiction, to have faith that He will provide the funds for this mission trip, and then my future once I return.

It’s a very rewarding but very trying process to fully rely on Him. Especially since it is such a foreign concept in our world today. People often ask me how are you going to raise the funds? What are you going to do when you return? How can you have that much faith that God is going to take care of everything.

It’s not always as easy to answer as I would like. Saying you have faith and then living a life that shows you have faith are two totally different things. There is also a huge difference in hoping that He is going to take care of it, and having the conviction in your heart that you know He is going to take care of it.

Psalm 37:5 says “Commit your way to the LORD, Trust also in Him, and He will do it.” in 55:22 He says, “Cast your burden upon the LORD and He will sustain you; He will never allow the righteous to be shaken”

but perhaps the one that gives me the most comfort is in

Luke 12:22-28 “And He said to His disciples, “For this reason I say to you, do not worry about your life, as to what you will eat; nor for your body, as to what you will put on. “For life is more than food, and the body more than clothing. “Consider the ravens, for they neither sow nor reap; they have no storeroom nor barn, and yet God feeds them; how much more valuable you are than the birds! “And which of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life’s span? “If then you cannot do even a very little thing, why do you worry about other matters? “Consider the lilies, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; but I tell you, not even Solomon in all his glory clothed himself like one of these. “But if God so clothes the grass in the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, how much more will He clothe you? You men of little faith!”

You are an heir to God, why do you think that the Lord of the Universe would not take care of His own?
