So I have spent a good deal of time mulling over ideas on what this blog post would be about. Should I explain a little bit about how I got here? Some information about the Race? What do people really want to read? I don’t know what to say… I don’t know where to start…. and on and on and on, the whole nine.
This is something I’m good at; over-analyzing. When something big is placed in front of me, [ex. the World Race] I want every aspect of it to be perfect and tied with a pretty pink bow. I’ve met many woman who have expressed this same issue. Somehow we believe this lie that if it’s not perfect [whatever it is], then that means we’re just not “good enough.” We constantly set these standards and unattainable expectations that we measure ourselves against and when we don’t meet them, are left feeling less than. Now, don’t get me wrong, setting goals and having standards and a plan is a good thing. In fact, its a great thing. It helps us to be responsible in our daily lives, it helps others learn how to respect us, and it helps us not settle for anything less than we deserve. But in a world where more is better and perfection is idolized, I think many of us forget that’s its okay for things to be little messy sometimes. Life is messy. Relationships are messy. Ministry is messy. Family is messy. Work is messy. It’s okay to not have every detail planned out and it’s okay when things don’t go as we thought they would. We need to cast out the notion that when something doesn’t go “right” it reflects who we are. Plans change, things happen. Ultimately, we don’t have control anyway. God is the one who is driving the ship and we need to learn to simply adjust our sails. Get comfortable in the uncomfortable and know that at the end of the day, God’s got us. We don’t need to know all the answers and how it will all pan out because He orchestrates it all and we know He is good. The world tell us that we need to know all the ins and outs of every situation, that we need to have plans for today, tomorrow, and ten years from now. That we need to do more, be better, and if we don’t than we’re not good enough. But He says, we are good enough, that we don’t need to be perfect. We need only lean on Him and our paths will be made straight. He tells us that we don’t need to have it all figured out because He already does. So I say right now, we live in these moments with Him. We don’t worry about tomorrow or trying to make our plans fit in a perfect square box. Let’s trust the Lord that somehow, between here and there, He will get us to where we need to be. His son who died for us, was made perfect because He knew we never could be. It’s time to put down the red pen and stop critiquing our lives. Stop striving for perfection and start focusing on our redemption. This journey the Lord has me on has already expanded the borders of my faith and trust in Him and it has only just begun. I don’t know everything He has planned out, how it is all going to happen, or what it’s going to look like, but I know Him and what He can do and that is all that matters.
“Seek first the Kingdom of God and his righteousness, and He will give you everything you need. So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.”
Matthew 6:33-34
