We are in month two of the race now.  We had around four days in Granada, Nicaragua for our first squad debrief.  It was a nice change of pace after our time in Costa Rica.  We talked about what we did well last month and what we could do better going forward.  It was nice to see the whole squad and have time to walk around the town and go out to eat (pizza is fantastic in other countries).

During our time at debrief, we had two unexpected but notable ministry opportunities with our team (Kaleo).  But the one that stood out the most began with us walking around town looking at all the items being sold by street venders.  After a while we stopped to look at a bracelet stand.  The man selling them noticed that one of our teammates had a baseball hat on.  He used his hands and noises to communicate with us.  We found out later that his name is Juan and he is mute and close to being deaf.  From that point on, he joined our squad for worship at night and hung out with us at our hostel and around town during the day.  One morning he asked me to go with him somewhere.  I told a couple teammates that I was leaving but I didn’t know where he was taking me or when I would be back.  we ended up walking three miles away from our hostel.  He took me to a shop where his deaf and mute friends worked.  All I can say is that I helped make pinatas for over an hour (rookie piñata maker here).  When we finished our project, Juan asked me to pray over each one of them.  Thankfully when we finished, I was able to grab a taxi and get to our home base.  It is so amazing to be presented with unexpected opportunities and have them be so influential in our lives.
