When we set off for this 11 month journey into the unknown, we had no idea what to expect.  Yes, we knew it would be hard mentally, physically, and spiritually, but we’ve found it harder than we thought.  Thankfully, we haven’t given in.  We keep showing up.

After thinking and praying into that last sentence it hit me: Why is just showing up enough?

When we examine Scripture and the life of Jesus, we can quickly see that we need to do a lot more than show up.  Look at our example: Jesus.  He did a whole lot more than show up when He was on Earth.  Everywhere He went He was healing, teaching, preaching, setting captives free, and ultimately giving glory to God the Father.  As we press on in our own journey, we need to follow Jesus’ example and stop just showing up.  The only way we can accomplish this is to truly get over ourselves and let Jesus work in and through us.

Anyone who has read the Gospels knows that Jesus’ life was anything but easy.  Even though His life was tough, He STILL did more than show up.  So it should come as no surprise to us when our lives are hard because we live for Christ.  He told us it would be.  Peter tells us we should feel honored, check this out: “Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery trial when it comes upon you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you.  But rejoice insofar as you share Christ’s sufferings, that you may also rejoice and be glad when his glory is revealed.” 1 Peter 4:12-13

My challenge to everyone, myself included, is to stop settling for showing up, get over ourselves, and truly allow the Holy Spirit to work in and through us.  We’ll be amazed at the results.
