hello, people! today has been AWESOME. we are currently waiting in the lecture hall for our next session. it's just us girls right now and we are all so excited because we got the guys a yellow cake. sooooo our guys are so wonderful, so selfless and encouraging. When it rained today, they held the tarp up over our packs so they wouldn't get wet. When we had to sleep in the bus last night (I'll explain in a sec) they gave up their sleeping bags and hammocks so we could be comfortable. When the monsoon started, they carried ALL of our packs up the hill to the gym – one guy had 6 packs! And to top it off, they made us flowers today out of napkins! They are so awesome. Girls from other squads were in awe. So we asked the kitchen ladies if they had anything sweet we could serve them. We are so anxious to thank them. People are starting fill the room…
So I'll type this fast. Every night is a different situation that we may encounter on the race. One night we slept in our regular tents, another night half our bags were "lost at the airport" so we had to bunk up, last night the "Ugandan border shut down during travel" so we had to sleep on the bus. (That sucked, kind of). Tonight we are living in community housing – aka three large tents, and tomorrow we stay in "hostels" aka the dorms. Pretty cool.
Each day is also a different country. We eat the native food for all three meals and learn something interesting about their culture and dominant religions. For breakfast today, we had cornmeal and water. For lunch we had cornmeal and water. Guess what we had for lunch? Cornmeal and water. Awesome. They had sides with it like boiled eggs, veggies and meat, but still, no bueno.
We had the HARDEST team bonding activity yesterday. We walked out to the woods where "our plane crashed" and we had several injuries. Some people lost legs, arms, vision, the ability to speak and some were unconscious. We had to effectively get our team up the mountain "away from the explosion zone" with said defects. Girls were literally carrying other girls up a mountain. It was crazy. I don't think we've ever sweat that much before. Then we had to load the buses. I'm sure you can imagine the stench. Mmm.
Here's another pic from one of our bonding activities. It was really fun. Everyone on our team ROCKS. I know I keep saying that, but it's true. I've never been around such strong, Godly men and women. It's really inspiring. Oh, my new friend, Jessica prayed over me yesterday and I could feel the Holy Spirit in me. That's never happened to me before. Pretty cool. I encourage it. Okay, tootles.
