Hey Folks,
We just made it to Nepal to start our FINAL month! How crazy is that?! Exactly one month from today I'll be back in the good ol U. S. of A. I can't believe how quickly this year has gone by. It has been an incredible blessing and I'm so thankful for all of your prayers and support.
This month, our team had the privilege of working for Donkey Bakery in Hanoi, Vietnam. Donkey Bakery is a social business enterprise that offers bakery, catering, and cafe services to the local community. Over 70% of the employees are either deaf, blind, or otherwise physically disabled.
Our team worked in different capacities at the bakery. Will and Lindsey spent most of their time in the kitchen, getting to know the staff and working with them on improving their recipes and work process. Nathan and Kim spent time in all areas on the business teaching English to the staff. Heather worked with a sister organization that is housed in the bakery. It is a fashion brand that is run with the same principles as the bakery. I mainly worked on the business side of things, running some analysis on their financials and implementing some process improvements. It was a fun month full of various work opportunities and a myriad of surprises.
Since Vietnam is a closed country, the work that we were able to do was not directly related to our mission. However, we were able to leverage the working relationships and turn them into friendships with the staff. We were able to have good conversations with some of them, and we were able to share with them why we were traveling and what the Lord has done in our hearts. Also, at the end of the month a few of us were able to take a couple of days and go to the beautiful Halong Bay. It was an incredible experience, and a great change to get re-energized for the last month on the race.
