So, the original plan of starting ministry in Haiti has changed. Since there are so many of us, 4 teams transitioned to Haiti while 7 teams are staying in the Dominican and starting ministry here. So, we made the 4 1/2 hour drive (in air conditioned buses, thank you very much!) across the DR to San Juan.
The atmosphere and scenery here is very very different than Santo Domingo. San Juan has beautiful mountains to the north and the south, and a landscape that is much more tropical. Of course, I probably should mention that we are staying the one of the most prominent neighborhoods in the town. Apparently the AIM base house here is rented from the Supreme Court Justice. It’s definitely a relief to have a place just to call home, for at least 3 weeks anyway. We have running water and electricity once again, which is a huge luxury here.
The big kicker is that we have 45 people all living in a house that would typically hold an American family of about 5. Talk about community living! Not to mention that there are only 21 beds, so lots of close quarters! This is WAY more intense than even dorm living at college. Never a dull moment in sight.
Please be in prayer for the people of this community. God has a big plan for them, so pray that their hearts be open to receiving all the blessings he has for them. Also, be in prayer for our health as a team. With such close living conditions in this kind of environment, its very easy to be exposed to all sorts of bacteria and infections. Not to mention that the DR boasts a high exposure to things such as amebas and parasite infections. So, definitely pray that we our bodies will be protected and remain strong in order to fully pursue our purpose here.
Pictures to be posted via Facebook soon.
Love you and miss you all… more than you know!
