Dear Family and Friends,
So far, 2017 has been an exciting year filled with love, difficult decisions, and huge, exciting changes. I’m being stretched in new ways and called to step outside of my comfort zone (you know, the place where I am always in control). Earlier this year, I formally said goodbye to my role as a public school educator and began to prepare for my role as a missions worker in an 11-month program called the World Race. This program is under the umbrella of an organization called Adventures in Missions, an interdenominational missions organization that has sent over 100,000 people into the mission field since 1989. I will be embarking on this journey in January 2018 to travel to countries in Pacific Asia, Eastern Europe, and South Africa.
The World Race is all about discipleship. A disciple is technically a learner, someone who comes to be taught, and the beautiful thing about this program is that I will have the chance to share what I know, and learn so much more than I already know. The World Race is in the business of serving others and equipping my generation to share the Good News. Through the World Race, my team and I will partner with churches and ministries in local communities to preach the Gospel, plant churches, work in orphanages, minister to women and children trapped due to human trafficking, and bring the restorative love and hope of Jesus to those who need it the most.
I know not everyone has the opportunity to serve overseas in his or her lifetime, but the World Race provides a unique opportunity for you to support me on my journey, even if you have to stay stateside. First, I ask for your prayers, both small and lengthy, concerning provision, preparation, and protection for me and my future team. Prayers are powerful, so above all else, I ask for your help by remembering me frequently in your prayers over the next year and a half.
Secondly, there is an opportunity for you to join me through financial support. The total cost of the trip is $17,400, which includes the costs of training, travel, lodging, and food while abroad, but not for any of the gear or supplies that I need. Yes. That is an overwhelming number, but let’s take a breath together and think about this. I am only asking you to do what you can do, to give what is on your heart today. Even if you are unable to take a mission trip of your own, you can still serve through a financial gift to help fund my journey. I speak from experience when I say that when God nudges you to give, He will provide, so I ask that you will prayerfully consider what financial support may look like for you. I have provided more details about how to give on the back of this letter, and I will certainly be available to answer any questions you may have.
My goal is to have full funding for my missions work by the end of December 2017, which is a big, hairy, audacious goal considering it is just six months away. However, I also know that it is possible because the God I serve is faithful to provide. Thank you for considering partnering with me and weaving yourself into my story!
Love and Blessings,
Mia A. Cohen
