Hi, Friend

As I began writing the “About Me” section, I started this sentence about one million times, but I keep erasing it, trying to make it perfect. So, I figured the first thing I should tell you about myself is that I am a recovering perfectionist, one who is slowly learning that life can be a bit messy, and that beginnings are rarely perfect.

I also overuse hyperbole on occasion. Confession: I rewrote the first sentence less than ten times.

You’re dying to know more about me, aren’t you? (Hopefully this is just more hyperbole; please don’t die).

I’m a 29-year-old former middle school teacher, and I miss my students more than I can express. I never thought I would be a teacher; in fact, in 2010, I graduated from The Ohio State University with a degree in Exercise Science and plans to move into Physical Therapy. However, I joined Teach for America and moved to the Mississippi Delta, and that was that. My teaching eventually carried me to Memphis and then Nashville, where I currently live, and where I was saved nearly 3 years ago.

I love to laugh, cry, show kindness, and help people realize they are worthy of love. As a teacher, these things often took precedent over the daily lesson. My family means the world to me, and I have 6 siblings who are all under the age of 22. I enjoy a good hike or time outdoors, I am always down for a dance off, and I love to sing!

There’s so much more to learn about me, and I hope you will follow me on this journey as I laugh, cry, show kindness, and help people realize they are worthy of love, all while discovering the deepest parts of my soul. I’m sure the beginning may be a bit messy, and I’m sure I will continue to be stretched in uncomfortable, beautiful ways, but I’m also sure that I’m ready.

Until the whole world hears,

Mia
